How are Amarone wines made?
Grapes are harvested in September when they are full of juice and of higher water content. Grapes that end up in Amarone wines take a different journey. They are stored in wooden crates over the winter months until they become raisins. This process results in 30-40% weight loss which means less wine is made but that wine is extremely concentrated in flavours. These big wines will then spend another 3 years ageing in Oak barrels as well as in the bottle. This entire process is what makes Amarones so special and real treat to have in any wine cellar!
