The Welcome Drinks
Welcome drinks don’t always have to be bubbles. Prosecco and champagne are often the ‘go-to’ drinks handed to guests upon arrival, but if you’re saving the fizz for the toast, there are plenty of other options to choose from.
An idea is to go with the season – for spring and summer weddings, a glass of classic Pimms is always a crowd pleaser, or if you want something stronger, mojitos or white sangria can be fun too.
In the winter, your guests will thank you for serving something hot – mulled wine or sloe gin hot toddy will be sure to warm up chilly guests.
Meal time
Impress your guests with the perfect mouthwatering food and wine pairings. If you’re serving a multi course meal, it’s best to serve a wine that’s matched to each course.
Starters
White or rosé tend to pair well with soups, salads and fried appetizers. This Fat Bastard Syrah Rosé will get the table talking for its name alone! It’s a fruit forward blend that’s fresh and lively – perfect with fresh summer salads or anything tempura.
Mains
A light red is typically a good option for the main – a pinot noir is a safe bet because it pairs well with a wide range of foods. Fruitier versions like this Chateau de l’Hestrange Burgundy Pinot Noir are a good match for roasted chicken, salmon, or pasta dishes. More tannic Pinots are great for casseroles, stews and duck or other game birds.
Cheeses
Cheese and wine is one of life’s simple pleasures, and will be sure to please a wedding crowd. A heavy, full bodied red like this gorgeous Nieto Senetiner Mendoza Malbec is delicious with a semi cured cheese like Manchego.
The Toast
It’s time to bring out the bubbly! This Champagne Moutard Grande Cuvee Brut NV is a fabulous way to toast to new beginnings. If you’re looking for something a little more wallet friendly, a Prosecco or Cremant are just as special too.
Sparkling wine is delicious with a sweet treat, so why not serve a slice of the cake post-toast?
The Bar
A well stocked bar will always be well received at a wedding. Picking spirits with beautiful bottles like this Mermaid Gin will instantly make the bar look beautiful and you can even upcycle the bottles to make wedding favours!
If you have leftover bubbles from the previous toast, why not get creative and create a cocktail like a French 75 or an Aperol spritz. For a more bohemian or rustic wedding, an efficient way of serving drinks is to fill up a couple of wheelbarrows with natural wine or craft beers – cover with ice and let the guests help themselves!
Don’t forget your sober friends!
It’s important to include non-alcoholic options when planning your wedding drinks. Try a non alcoholic sparkling wine for the toast, or treat your sober friends and designated drivers to a delicious selection of non-alcoholic Kombucha flavours. We love the ginger and strawberry flavours from Fix8. For your beer loving sober friends – we highly recommend Mikkeller Weird Weather IPA and Lucky Saint Lager.
